Please note that all our swarm collectors are doing a voluntary service in their own time after work and between other commitments. We receive no government funding and pay for equipment out of our own pockets which gets quite expensive.
Due to financial pressures, we do ask for a small collection fee to go towards our travel costs, time and equipment to house the bees in. Just a box to collect the bees in costs an average of $128. The bees only last in this box for a few weeks before needing to be housed in a permanent home, average cost $350.
We cannot sell the swarm for many months due to bio security. Primarily we often keep them as a stand alone hive, or merge them with another swarm. We do not sell swarms. Letting bees fly away is not something we recommend as they often find a home in someone's house, roof, chimney, wall or some other spot that becomes an expensive removal.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact the swarm coordinator.
